"ARE YOU TOUGH ENOUGH?"

We are always on the lookout for new recruits and are now recruiting for

2012 Field Gun Season

at Portsmouth College, Tangiers Road, Portsmouth

where you will soon be introduced to your 2012 best friend, a Command, 1 ton, 12-pounder field gun and limber.

Camaraderie, team work and discipline is what you get. Satisfaction that we turned you into better men is what we get. We train you, we get you fit, so if those lungs and little pot bellies are troubling you, come and join us.

The training programme will commence in January 2012 through to March 2012 when interested volunteers will receive a basic work-out procedure to get into shape. Dependant on your level of participation in any sport, will depend on how you need to work in this 2-month programme. March and April will see all volunteers meeting regularly to finalise your training ready for the track season, which runs from the end of April to early September. Field gunning is still regarded as one of the toughest team sports in the world, where discipline and teamwork are paramount, so preparing yourself physically is essential.

2010 saw the Portsmouth Action Field Gun crew back at the British Military Tournament in Earls Court in December. Last year the crew volunteered to assist the show organisers and Wellington College Cadets as arena riggers, to ensure the field gun display was a success. 2012 may well see Portsmouth Action Field Gun participating in the Military Show as a running crew. What better incentive to join than that of being the first civilian crew to run Command field gun at Earls Court.

The crew will be performing at the Chatsworth Country Fair in Derbyshire over the week-end of 31st August, 1st and 2nd September 2012. All volunteers need to ensure they are available Friday evenings and Saturdays through the season. A 2-week break will be inserted in our programme mid-Jun
